医学化验技术

Test biological specimens at healthcare center laboratories with this associate of applied science degree. The two-year program includes three semesters of general education, science and other relevant courses, followed by 16 weeks of clinical experience at an affiliate hospital lab. General education and lecture courses are taught online, and on-campus labs are conducted once or twice a week.

Graduates are prepared for the MLT Board of Certification exam and may seek to join the growing healthcare industry workforce immediately after, or transfer to a university to pursue an advanced degree in the field.

• To evaluate the importance of patient identification, transport and processing of blood and body fluid specimens for analysis
• Safe collection and processing of biological specimens
• Procedures for accurate lab testing, including quality assurance and quality control
• Operation of lab instruments/analyzers and preventive and corrective maintenance
• Multitasking skills for situations where a wide variety of testing procedures are performed
• Correlation of didactic and clinical phases of laboratory education in the evaluation and interpretation of test data
• Career entry competencies as defined by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS)
• Professional conduct and communication with patients, medical staff and the public
